Nearly four years later, The Weeknd has ended his Grammy boycott.
After telling The New York Times in 2021 that he would no longer allow his label to submit him to the awards show, the Recording Academy welcomed him back
Remember he’s a 4x Grammy winner.
The Weeknd performed ‘Timeless’ and ‘Cry for Me’ onstage from his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow…that came out on Friday.
We played that album all weekend on KIIS btw. He took over the station and switched the music to only his at 11am Friday.
But the drama with the Grammys dates back to 2021…when he accused the Recording Academy of not being diverse enough, and claimed “secret committees” blocked his After Hours album from receiving any nominations that year even though it was one of the biggest albums of the year. He said at the time…“because of the secret committees. I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys. The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency
The Grammys made a lot of changes after that, and apparently the Weeknd approves. It was a big deal that he showed up last night!
