Look, life is busy and if you have an online shopping habit like most of us, there are packages arriving to your doorstep every day!
But unsuspecting shoppers could also receive packages addressed to them that they never ordered.
This scam is known as âbrushingâ!
Cybercriminals ship packages to you with no return address that contain a QR code. You get this package and are confused and then scan the code thinking that will give you some info as to who sent the package.
And that is when it all goes bad! The code could expose sensitive information from your smartphones or download virus software onto your phones.
A scammerâs QR code could take you to a spoofed site that looks real but isnât. And if you log in to that site, the scammers then steal any information you enter.
Now, law enforcement agencies across the country are warning local residents to stay vigilant. So, check your packages before youâre their next victim!
