This Is How Many Chicken Wings Americans Will Eat On Super Bowl Sunday

When you start planning out your snacks for your Super Bowl viewing party, are chicken wings on the menu? In our house they ALLLWAYS make the cut, and it seems like they are sort of the "unofficial" snack of the big game every year.

And even this year, even though we won't gather with friends, I still think all of us will be separately making or ordering wings.

If you've ever wondered just how many chicken wings get eaten on Super Bowl Sunday each year... It's probably even more than you're expecting.

Americans are expected to eat a record 1.42 billion wings during this year's Super Bowl weekend, according to the National Chicken Council’s annual wing report. Yes, that's BILLION, not million.

FOX reported that it is actually expected that chicken wings will be in even higher demand this year due to people staying home and distanced from each other since they are a kind of comfort food. If you can't hang out with all your friends on Super Bowl Sunday, drown your sorrows in chicken wings, right?

Another surprising statistic is that chicken wing sales at the supermarkets totaled $3 billion in 2020... which is 10.3% higher than in 2019. And this is likely in part due to people staying home and watching sports at home more this last year than ever before AND from the air fryer craze that had people cooking up delicious wings in their homes.

So there you have it, we like, reallllly enjoy our wings here in the US. Especially when they're paired with sports and beer.

If you're a chicken wing family - what kind of sauce do you go for? Spicy? Garlic? BBQ? I think we prefer to have a variety of sauces for our wings, which is usually for the benefit of our friends we have over, but this year it will just be me, my husband and the kids devouring them!
