Taylor Swift And 'Tiger King' Are Part Of 2020's Top Dog Names And Trends

Target Pet Show Fall 2005 - Backstage

2020 has been a year of staying home, living and working through a pandemic, and an election year. BUT, it was also a year of both the Lakers and Dodgers taking home big championship titles, a lot of really good new music and, well, Tiger King.

And no shocker here, but Tiger King actually made the list of the top dog names and trends of 2020, as did Taylor Swift.

Rover.com, the pet-sitting website that helps connect pet owners with pet sitters, released their year-end round up of pet trends, and due to SO many people adopting new pets during quarantine and being able to spend time with their pets while working form home, were able to predict what these pets might be named.

According to Rover's "The Most Popular Pet Names and Trends of 2020" report, the top 10 female and male dog names are filled with some classics.

The mom popular male names are:

Max, Charlie, Cooper, Buddy, Milo, Bear, Rocky, Duke, Tucker, and Jack.

The most popular female names are: Bella, Luna, Lucy, Daisy, Lola, Sadie, Molly, Bailey, Stella, and Maggie.

The bigger surprises, though, come from the "trending" names that have been inspired by the events of this year. Many dogs were actually given names inspired by the coronavirus pandemic. The name Covi is up 1,159 percent, Rona is up 69 percent, and Corona is up 24 percent. A few pets were actually named Dr. Fauci, a first for Rover's annual analysis into pet names.

Other trends included pets named afterTiger King's Carol Baskin (up 46 percent) and dogs named Mando, a nod to Disney+'s Mandolorian (up 2,658 percent). Mando, in fact, is the number two trending dog name of 2020. The top trending dog name of 2020 is Geralt, a name with a 9,308 percent increase, inspired by the success of Netflix'sThe Witcher.

Other trends included celebrity names for dogs. Taylor Swift, Lizzo and Betty White all made the list of celebrities with dogs named after them. Taylor Swift increased by 92 percent, Lizzo by458 percent, and Betty White continues to be a popular name for dog owners.

If you had to choose a 2020-themed name for your pet, what would it be?! I might consider "Homie" for all the time we spent at home this year.
