Twitter Is Changing The Way You Retweet For The Time Being

Social Media Site Twitter Debuts On The New York Stock Exchange

If you're on Twitter over the next couple of weeks, you may notice things look just a tiny bit different!

The "Retweet" option will be altered for the time being, according to The Verge.

But before you panic, not too much is going to change, Twitter is just making a slight change to how you "retweet" something to inspire you to share your opinion about the tweet itself, rather than just resharing it exactly how it is.

Starting today, though I have yet to see it pop up on my app, when you go to retweet by clicking the retweet icon, Twitter will pull up the Quote Tweet composer, rather than just automatically sharing it as is.

The thing is, you aren't REQUIRED to write anything along with the tweet. If you want to just share the tweet as is, leave the composer blank and hit the retweet button again and it will retweet as it normally would.

This new function, though, is Twitter's attempt at stopping people in the middle of the process ot get them to better consider exactly what they're sharing, and of course encouraging them to share their own perspective on said Tweet.

This function will be in place until at least the end of election week (the week of November 3rd), though it sounds like there is a chance it will continue longer than that.

This isn't the ONLY change you might see on Twitter this week, either. You also won't see “liked by” or “followed by” recommendations from people you don’t follow. Plus, the trends box will only show trends with included additional context, rather than just basic terms or phrases without explanation. All of these changes will be in place through the end of election week here in the United States, according to Twitter themselves.

Have you seen the changes show up for your account yet??
