How Young Is Too Young For Highlights?

Look, I know that all parents are different. And that's always how it's going to be. Some moms probably dislike things that I do with my children, and I won't always agree with everything moms and dads do with their children!

But Amanda Stanton , who was on Ben Higgins ' season of The Bachelor recently faced backlash after revealing that she let her oldest daughter - a first grader - get highlights for the first time.

She shared a sweet photo of she and her daughter in matching navy blue outfits and captioned it "baby's first highlights."

I think a natural first reaction from a lot of people is... "wow, she's young!" And I will admit I definitely felt that way, too, when I first saw the photo.

And so many people commented with their opinions of Amanda allowing her to have the highlights with messages like, "oy, don't have them grow up so fast" and "sad to see kids acting so much older than they are."

But then I wondered how I would have felt about that photo if her daughter was a boy who had just colored his hair - Patty 's son has a red mohawk and I really never thought twice about it.

So is there a difference between boys and girls changing their appearance? Is it because for boys who put fun colors in their hair it seems like it's all just for play, but for a little girl to get highlights, it comes off as for changing their appearance to be more "beautiful"?

Amanda had actually posted a poll asking her followers what they thought of her allowing her daughter to color her hair... and later responded to those negative comments with a pretty priceless reaction.

She wrote on her stories that she posted the poll knowing it would "trigger the trolls" and that she was actually "trolling the trolls" by posting it.

She wrapped it up saying, "moral of the story is not everyone is going to agree with you and everything you do... and that's okay."

And I don't think any of us can be mad about that outlook, even if we don't all agree with her. Moms are entitled to make the best decision they can for their own kids.
