We're getting very close to the midterm elections - one week away, in fact, and it's time to consider your options when it comes to getting your vote in.
As a new mom, I started wondering if I will be able to have a baby sitting while I go vote or if I will need to bring Aiza and Maxon to the polls with me. Is that even allowed? To bring your babies to the polls.
Well, the great news for all of us moms is that YES! You can bring any child under 18 years old to the polls with you in every single state in the United States!
There are some guidelines to follow, of course, but it's all pretty simple.
It is important to know that you are allowed to bring your kids to the polls, and into the booth, with you. So if a poll worker tries to turn you down for having your children present, make sure you remind them of their states laws.
As for how many children you can bring into the booth with you? Well, from what I could find in California, it does not say exactly how many, but as long as they are under 18, it doesn't seem there is a limit on children you can bring in with you.
Which is important for me as a mother of twins! If you're worried about it, though, perhaps bring a friend or your spouse and get your voting done all together so you have extra hands on deck to help out.
What about if your kids want to help cast your vote, if you have toddlers or younger kids who want to be involved?
Technically, after you have made all of your selections yourself, your kids can help by pushing the button or pulling the lever to submit your vote, according to What To Expect.
Seems like a great way to start teaching your kids about the importance of voting at a young age, if you ask me!
So there you have it, you can TOTALLY bring your kids with you to the polls next week - just try to bring toys or snacks to keep them happy and entertained while you wait.
Peak voting times are before 9am, lunch time and after 5pm, so I would suggest trying to get to the polls sometime during non-peak hours to avoid suuuper long lines!
