When you're young and suddenly in the spotlight, it can be a lot to handle.
Lorde learned that the hard way when she released her mega hit 'Royals' when she was just 16 and suddenly found herself in the middle of all this crazy fame.
She recently opened up about that time in her life, discussing how she's not good at being famous and how her personal body image changed.
With talking about the rapid and huge success of 'Royals':
“When it was happening, I was quite overwhelmed by it. But that was a long time ago. If anything, I’ve slowly been getting less famous since ‘Royals’ was really big. Which is totally cool for me… I suck at being famous. And that’s fine.”
She then talked about how being so young and in the spotlight affected her body image:
“I remember being made aware of my looks and my body in a way that I had never been.”
She continued:
“I remember all these kids online, I think I beat their favourite people to Number One, and they were like, ‘F*** her, she’s got really far-apart eyes,'... I remember being like, ‘Whoa! How did I get all this way without knowing I had far-apart eyes?’ Just weird s*** like that.”
As for what this new era feels like for Lorde? She's comfortable being herself.
And she should be! This new album is amazing and everything I ever imagined Lorde releasing.
