Rag'n'Bone Man Explains What His Name Really Means

Rag'n'Bone Man stopped by to hang out with Maxwell at the Z100 studios and talk about the crazy success he's been experiencing. The British singer admitted he was actually quite surprised with how massively popular his lead single 'Human' became. The hit song was only supposed to be a lead in to bigger and better things for the up and coming artist, however, it ended up being an unexpected smash hit. He even ended up taking home the highly coveted Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act following the success of the song.

He explained the real meaning behind his stage name, as well. While it might make perfect sense to those who hail from the U.K., but it has some in the U.S. scratching their heads. In England, there's a term for people who collect unwanted household items and sells them for profit. They're called rag-and-bone men. Due to his varied musical influences, Rag'n'Bone Man identified with this and made it his own.

Rag'n'Bone man also spoke about his many musical influences. He grew up with parents who were extremely passionate about good music. His mom loved jazz, while his dad was fond of the blues. As he grew up and got into hip hop music, Rag'n'Bone man began to combine all three into his own music.

Maxwell believes that the realism in his music and lyrics lends itself to a transformative listening experience. Rag'n'Bone Man revealed that there's not a single song on his album Human that did not come from a real situation. "I'm good at reaching into the past without getting too emotional," the singer said of mining his personal life for content. "Some things get better when you talk about them."

Thanks for stopping by Rag'n'Bone Man. It was great learning more about this talented artist's unique sound, as well as the true meaning behind his special name.
