Los Angeles County Public Health Department Director Barbara Ferrer told the L.A. City Council that elementary school campuses could reopen in just two to three weeks. The school will only be eligible to reopen if countywide infection rates continue to drop. She said during a council briefing,
“I think if we continue to decrease, you might hit that number in like two to three weeks. We dropped pretty significantly just in one week. I think we were at 75 cases per 100,000 like a week ago. And I think now we’re 45 — these are adjusted rates that the state uses.”
However, just keep in mind that even if cases continue to decline, all campuses may not be able to open right away. In the Los Angeles Unified School District, the teachers union and district officials will negotiate on what the return to campus would look like.
