The Orange County Sheriff's Department Won't Enforce Newsom's Curfew Order!

Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California counties in the purple tier will be under a limited stay at home order as coronavirus cases rises. Starting this weekend, California will be have a curfew from 10pm-5am. This means that all non-essential work, movement and gatherings will have to stop in all purple tier counties. However, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said its deputies will not be enforcing Gov. Gavin Newsom's limited stay at home order. According to Sheriff Don Barnes,

"At this time, due to the need to have deputies available for emergency calls for service, deputies will not be responding to requests for face-coverings or social gatherings-only enforcement. Throughout the pandemic, the Orange county Sheriff's Department has taken an education-first approach with regard to the public health orders."

While the Orange County Sheriff's Department has chosen not to enforce Gov. Gavin Newsom's limited stay at home order, the Costa Mesa Police Department released a separate statement. The Costa Mesa Police Department tweeted that they will be enforcing the order.

"The Costa Mesa Police Department will enforce the State's new limited stay at home order to keep the community safe and healthy. We want to encourage our community to comply with the State's order to ensure we are all doing our part to quell the spread of the virus."
