The two 14 year old boys accused of fatally attacking Moreno Valley middle school student Diego Stolz last year, have admitted guilt. A spokesman for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, John Hall, said both juveniles “made admissions” to involuntary manslaughter and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury during a hearing. According to John Hall, "made admissions” is a terminology used in juvenile court similar to pleading guilty. Previously, the two boys faced a more serious charge of voluntary manslaughter, but it's unclear why the charge was reduced. One defendant is scheduled to be sentenced February 10 and the other on February 16, they're currently not in custody.
On September 16, 2019, the three boys were among other students outside classrooms at Landmark Middle School when one boy punched 13 year old Diego Stolz. Stolz was standing with his hands at his side, causing him to fall and hit his head against a pillar. The two boys continued punching Stolz as he was knocked unconscious, never woke up and was pronounced dead nine days later from a brain injury.
