A brush fire in Sylmar broke out late last night (10/11) and has grown rapidly to about 4,600 acres and 0% containment causing more than 13,000 homes to be evacuated! The Saddleridge Fire was first reported near the Yarnell Road exit right off the 210 Freeway. The fire is currently burning west now threatening homes in Porter Ranch and Granada Hills. On top of the fire, firefighters are currently dealing with high winds blowing up to 60mph. While the Los Angeles Fire Department doesn't have an estimate on how many homes have burned so far, here's a list of all of the freeway closures, mandatory evacuations, and school closures below:
Freeway Closures:
- The 5 Freeway is shut down from Roxford Street to Calgrove Boulevard
- The southbound 14 Freeway is closed at Newhall Avenue
- A portion of the 210 Freeway has been shut down from the 118 Freeway to the 5 Freeway
- The northbound 405 Freeway is closed at the 118 Freeway
- The 118 Freeway is closed from Balboa Boulevard to De Soto Avenue.
Mandatory Evacuations:
- ALL of Porter Ranch (north of 118 FWY) from Reseda to De Soto
- Oakridge Estates (north of 210 FWY)
- West of Balboa, North of Sesnon to the Ventura County border with DeSoto as the western border
Sylmar Recreation Center (13109 Borden Avenue) and Mason Park (10500 Mason Avenue) is still open for people and small pets who are evacuated. If you have a large animal, you can got to Hansen Dam.
