An 8-year-old boy knew exactly what to do when his little sister started to choke on a chicken nugget last month, using something he learned from TV.
Jaxon Dempsey of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, is being heralded as a hero for leaping into action and saving 20-month-old Leila’s life.
Jaxon first noticed there was something wrong with Leila after they got food at McDonald’s. J
axon says, “We were driving to my haircut, and I noticed she was starting to choke from a chicken nugget from McDonald’s. I told my dad to pull over. Then I was starting to pat on her back, and it got out.”
Using the heel of his hand, Jaxon slapped Leila between her shoulder blades. In about 30 seconds, Jaxon was able to dislodge the nugget from his sister’s throat.
Jaxon says he learned the move from watching an episode of Nickelodeon’s The Substitute, where WWE superstar John Cena teaches kids how to save someone from choking. He remembered Cena’s lesson in the moment and saved his sister’s life.
