Now, if you are a millennial and you are scared and confused and worried, we need to chat. If you feel like Gen Z is coming for you, and you’re worried that skinny jeans and Eminem have really been canceled, you need to take a deep breath. The “war” raging between the generations online is not something you should truly be worried about and the experts warn that it can be detrimental to your health if you do.
●Other Esteem Is No Esteem. You already know that you shouldn’t let stranger’s opinions of you impact your life, but psychotherapist Noel McDermott drives this point home by explaining that when you invest in ‘other esteem,’ it significantly reduces your confidence. It’s called self-esteem for a reason people.
●Get Off The Web. Counselor Kirsty Taylor says that if you find yourself stressing over what other people think that you need to log off for a while. “It’s really important to remember that one person’s opinion does not make a truth,” says Talyor. Remember that inter-generational warfare is nothing new and that you’re not helping either side by playing into it.
Instead of roasting some kid on TikTok, you’d be much better off calling a loved one and talking about anything else.
