A new study has confirmed that 2020 wasn’t a great year for vegetables and healthy foods. The stress from the coronavirus and everything that came with it had most people consuming more sugar and fatty foods than ever. And interestingly, the junk food effect was predominantly felt by women.
The researchers tracked people’s diet 14 months before and during the pandemic and they found women were the hardest hit by comfort food cravings. The females in the study not only had a higher intake of sugar and saturated fat than men, but they were also eating more as a response to stress.
While this study’s 31 participants set it at the small end of sample sizes, they aren’t the first to have these kinds of results. Other research just recently found about three-quarters of Americans were eating higher-calorie foods like candy and ice cream in isolation. And until broccoli tastes as good as Breyers, you can bet on that trend continuing.
