Thinking about visiting another country or even moving your home office abroad?

The World Happiness Report is a survey that measures the attitudes toward happiness, trust, and life satisfaction of people all over the world and they believe they have the definitive list of the happiest countries around the globe. Here are the top five and spoiler alert, America is not one of them.

1. Finland. Out of a scale of zero to 10, Finland scored a 7.89 which was enough to earn them the title of the happiest country in the world.

2. Iceland. Iceland apparently knows something else the world doesn’t because they made moves this year and jumped from fourth to second place with a score of 7.6.

3. Denmark. COVID got the Danish folks down but not enough to lose them a post in the top three. Their score was 7.51.

4. Switzerland. The Swiss took a step back this year in happiness but they’re fractions away from overtaking Denmark for the bronze medal in global happiness.

5. Netherlands. The Dutch also took the rare step forward in happiness levels with a score of 7.504 to launch them into fifth place after being stuck in seventh last year. Must have been some innovations in wooden shoes we didn’t hear about.

For the record, the United States ranks as the 14th happiest country in the world with a score of 7.028. Among the things the study points out to what may have caused our country to be so low are our high rates of unemployment (but seriously – judging on the last year – not fair!), how slow we were to act on the pandemic, and the researchers also note The United States has the highest score for individualism in the world.
