WORK FROM HOME: How To Be A More Likable Work-From-Home Coworker

Working from home has made a lot of things easier in our careers but it’s made it more difficult than ever to be a likable coworker. At least when everyone was in the office, you could make a little small talk in the hallway, or stick a dozen free doughnuts in the breakroom to buy some clout with your colleagues. Now you have to really put in some effort to be a “user-friendly coworker.” Here are some tips on how to pull it off.

● Offer Your Full Availability. Ease of access is a big key to being a likable work-from-home coworker. So instead of asking someone when they’re free for a meeting, simplify things and send them the exact times you’re free this week. Give them a few options to choose from and then confirm it with a calendar invite.

● Bundle Your Nudges. Instead of peppering your coworkers with questions throughout the day, let some build-up, and send multiple questions in a single message. They’ll probably thank you for not distracting them every 15 minutes.

● Use Easy-to-follow Subject Lines And File Names. Another way you can make your coworkers like you more is to make your email subjects searchable and to the point. They should be almost good enough that people don’t have to click on them to know what they’re about. That goes for file names too.
