College students aren’t going to socially distance ...The latest example: Ohio State University suspended 228 students on Monday – one day before classes even started. Even though classes started on Tuesday, students have been living on campus since August 12th. And it seems these students broke the school’s coronavirus rules by throwing big parties. According to campus rules, students must wear masks, stay six feet apart, and limit gatherings to no more than 10 people -- both on- and off-campus.The Columbus Dispatch ran photos last week showing large groups of students hanging out at houses near campus. And another example: The University of Alabama just reported more than 560 new cases of COVID-19 ... less than a week after classes began. As a result, the city of Tuscaloosa has closed down its bars for two weeks in an effort to curb the spread. (NPR)
Is this punctuation mark aggressive? Apparently, Millennials and Gen Zers view using a period in a text as a form of aggression -- and definitely uncool. In her book on digital etiquette,Kill Reply All, digital culture journalist Victoria Turk writes, “Only old people or troubled souls put periods at the end of every sentence.” She goes on to say, “ ... in a messaging conversation, a period is simply not necessary. It’s clear when you’ve finished your thought already, so what function does the period fulfill? As a result, using a period in messaging now looks rather emphatic, and can come across as if you’re quite cross or annoyed.”(NY Post)
