National Food Day: Yeah, we know – every day is food day. But today is a day to encourage people to eat real food and cut back on sugary, processed foods.
Confession time … How “clean” do you eat? Are you finicky about where your food comes from and if it’s organic or not? Or, do just eat whatever is easy and tastes good? Are you someone who never eats vegetables? Do you only eat processed or fast food? Any guilt about it?
Speaking of junk food addiction … According to a new study, quitting junk food can result in symptoms of withdrawals a lot like those experienced by people who are addicted to drugs. Study subjects who eliminated junk food from their diets reported that they experienced sadness, tiredness, cravings and increased irritability in the first few days after quitting. Fortunately, these symptoms went away after those first few days. (Healthline)
Next level bridezilla … A woman in Australia confessed that she secretly fattened up her bridesmaids ... so she would look skinnier and better in the wedding photos. No joke. The woman, named Penny, insisted on making breakfast smoothies for her bridesmaids – who also happened to be her own sisters. She told them they were special weight loss smoothies and even went so far as to buy weight loss shake mixes, empty the contents and fill them with mega-weight gain protein powder that she got at a body building shop. Get this … she added triple the recommended amount to the smoothies she made for her two sisters -- and then made hers with just fruit and coconut water.
It worked. “By the time my wedding rolled around, each of my sisters had to have their dress altered to accommodate their thickening waistlines,” Penny said. “The day went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time. I never thought for a moment on my wedding day that I wasn’t the center of attention or the most important person in the room.”
Penny admits that she feels some guilt – but doesn’t regret her devious plan. She says, “Now, when I look back on my wedding photos – as I do often as we’ve got them displayed around the house – I sometimes feel a twinge of guilt that I’m standing there glowing and gorgeous in my bridal gown, and my sisters are looking washed out and chubby. But mostly I feel happy.”
Penny says her sisters have since lost the weight. (Whimn)
Americans are vacation deprived. According to a new study by travel site Expedia, American workers take the fewest number of vacation days in the world. And American vacation deprivation is at a five year high. The average person in the U.S. gets 14 days of paid vacation … yet will only take 10 days, at most. That’s almost a week of vacation wasted. 54 percent of Americans say they don’t take a vacation because they can't afford it -- that's up 11 percent from 2017. Also, Americans use an average of two of their vacation days per year for things like running errands and appointments.
Do you put toilet paper around the seat when using a public toilet? You may want to rethink that. According to microbiologist Phillip M. Tierno, aka Dr. Germ, toilet seats are designed to repel bacteria -- something toilet paper doesn't do. Consider this: Every time you flush, bacteria makes its way into the air, landing all over the bathroom – including on the toilet paper. So if you then sit on that toilet paper you are exposing yourself to more germs than if you just sat on the seat. According to Tierno, STDs are rarely ever found on a toilet seat and as long as you aren't exposing yourself to another person's bodily fluids, you'll be just fine. He even says that “the top of a toilet seat is much cleaner than most people's kitchen sinks.” Hmmm. (Indy 100)
