Meek Mill and the REFORM Alliance have a plan to protect one of the most vulnerable populations from the coronavirus.
Meek,Jay-Z, and the non-profit's other co-founders want to help U.S. governors stop the spread of the virus behind bars. The S.A.F.E.R. plan makes recommendations for suspended technical violations, probation visits, fines and fees for prisoners across the country. They also want governors to consider alternatives to incarceration, offer free medical visits and treatment, provide protective gear, encourage extra precautions for prison staff, and release the elderly and vulnerable to home confinement.
The S.A.F.E.R. plan has support from the National Urban League, the Justice Action Network, the American Conservative Union, and the R Street Institute. REFORM says, “Failing to act could expose tens of thousands of people in prisons and jails across the country to the virus.”
