iHeartRadio Podcast Icon Awards Recipients Revealed

The iHeartRadio Podcast Awards are all about honoring those podcasts and podcast creators that millions of listeners consume everyday. And with less than a month to go before 2020's awards, the recipients of the iHeartRadio Podcast Icon Awards have been revealed.

Tenderfoot TV's Payne Lindsey and Donald Albright will receive the Audible Audio Pioneer Award. If you're a true crime fanatic, then you've probably listened to podcasts like "Atlanta Monster" and "Up and Vanished," which Lindsey and Albright are behind. But in addition to these two popular podcasts, Tenderfoot TV has put together a number of critically acclaimed true crime podcasts, including "To Live and Die in LA," "Culpable" and "Sworn."

New York Times' "1619" is being honored with the Social Impact Award. Hosted by award-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, the podcast is a five-episode series that is part of a major initiative the NYT to observe the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery and reframe the history of the United States by understanding that 1619 was the nation's true founding.

Additionally, NPR's "Life Kit" will receive the Innovator Award presented by Zoom. "Life Kit" is exactly how it sounds — a podcast full of practical information and guidance to help people improve their lives in areas including personal finance, health and wellness, and parenting. NPR received the first-ever iHeartRadio Podcast Pioneer Award during last year's inaugural iHeartRadio Podcast Awards.

Taking place on January 17th, the 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards will honor the most entertaining and innovative podcasts over the last year, and spans 30 categories. The nominees were announced in November, and include podcasts across multiple genres including music, comedy, crime, sports & recreation, food, business & finance, fashion, and more. Winners will be chosen by a panel of blue-ribbon podcast industry leaders, creatives and visionaries. However, podcast fans will choose the winner of the Best Podcast of the Year award via social voting on Twitter, going on now through January 10th.
