Metallica singer/guitarist James Hetfield says the band won't be playing as long as The Rolling Stones but could keep touring into their sixties, just like AC/DC.
Hetfield tells Marc Maron in an appearance on the comedian's most recent WTF Podcast that he gets asked all the time about how long Metallica will keep playing live.
"You know when people talk about us and our longevity, they're always saying, 'How long you gonna go? You gonna be in your wheel chair...like the Rolling Stones...?'"
While many interviewers compare Metallica to the Rolling Stones given their massive success, Hetfield offers AC/DC as a better gauge of how the band will hold up over time.
"Okay, I kinda get the reference to the Rolling Stones, but for us, we're a little more athletic...I mean, fast songs, really intense. So I say, you know, 'Hey, look at Angus [Young], up there in his--God, I don't know how old he is now--a few hundred years old, but he is unbelievable."
Young, 61, just wrapped up a world tour with AC/DC in the fall.
Later in the interview, Hetfield went on to talk about his admiration for AC/DC, Aerosmith, Motorhead and how proud he is to have performed with those bands.
