Interview: Peter Asher Talks Beatles, Gordon Waller & More! (VIDEO)

Peter Asher got his start as a teen idol in the '60s with his vocal group Peter & Gordon before transitioning into a fruitful career as a record producer and manager.

Before finding stardom, however, Peter became acquainted with a young songwriter named Paul McCartney, who was dating his sister, Jane. He says Paul became a friend and the two bonded over their mutual love of American music.

Peter was one of the first people to ever hear "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," when Paul and John Lennon played it for him to get his opinion.

"They asked me what I thought of it," he says. "I was lost for words. What you actually do is you ask them to play it again, which of course is the sign of a hit."

Peter continues to enjoy great success in his own right. He is currently touring with his "Memoir" show, in which he tells stories from his incredible career and sings some of his most important songs.

He also has been nominated for a Grammy as a producer of the original cast recording of the hit Broadway show, "Bright Star."
