CANNONS return with their new single, “All I Need,” the first single since their 2023 album, Heartbeat Highway. “All I Need” offers the first glimpse into the new era of music from CANNONS, coming in 2026.
Songwriter and vocalist Michelle Joy tells us the song began as a rough sketch on the tour bus in May 2024, but when it came to finishing it months later, the band was in a fragile place. After years of non-stop touring which ultimately led to health issues, the smallest steps forward felt like mountains. That was the headspace where the song finally took shape, reflected in its shimmering energy, yet darker tone.
Joy tells us, “Ryan reworked the sketch with a darker, shinier edge, somewhere between Air and Pink Floyd, and I found melodies that leaned into that weight, giving the chorus a Radiohead-like pull. I recorded my first take one night in complete darkness during a power outage; its raw imperfection unlocked some sort of magic in the song. From there, the track began to take on its own life.
On the decision to make “All I Need” the lead single of this new chapter, Joy says, “The lyrics “falling, down again / I’m burning for you” and “all I need is your love” come from that place of being worn down to nothing, yet still reaching for the one thing that feels grounding and worth surviving for. In the middle of it all, we grew even closer as a band. Our love for each other, and the process of making music we love together, carried us through the darkness into the light, the same journey the song holds.
