WARNING: Some Banana Boat Sunscreen Is Being Recalled

Check your sunscreen brand because some of the Banana Boat sunscreens are being recalled by the FDA because of a cancer-causing chemical.

According to ABC 7, three kinds of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 are being recalled by Edgewell Personal Care Company because there are traces of benzene, which is classified as a human carcinogen. The company said that the sunscreen doesn't contain the ingredient but those traces came from "the propellant that sprays the product out of the can." Below are the three kinds of Banana Boat sunscreen being recalled:

  • 6 oz Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Spray SPF 30: Lot Code: 20016AF - Expiration Date: December 2022
  • 6 oz Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Spray SPF 30: Lot Code: 2008AF - Expiration Date: February 2023
  • 6 oz Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Spray SPF 30: Lot Code: 21139AF - Expiration Date: April 2024

Being exposed to benzene can result in cancers such as leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow as well as blood disorders that can be life threatening. If you have any questions regarding the recall, contact Edgewell Personal Care at 1-888-686-3988 from Monday-Friday 9am-6pm ET or visit bananaboat.com for more information.
