While your backyard pool isn't your first worry in a major storm... here are a few things you can do to prepare.
From Clearwater Pools....
To help you in your preparation, you need to know 5 principal rules that you must follow:
1- Draining a little just below the skimmer and turn off your skimmer valve. The pool does not have to empty to avoid damages, due to pressure from excessive ground water caused by heavy rains.
2-Turning off power to the pool.
3-Remove all furniture ( chairs, toys,tables...) on your pool deck. (Some say to toss into pool, but this will ruin some furniture.)
4-Do not add chemical on your pool. Access after the rains have stopped.
5-Remove cover on your pool if you use one.
Good Luck, Stay Safe. -xo
