Childish Gambino stunned during his falsetto-laden performance at the 60th Grammy Awards, performing his song "Terrified" off his Grammy-nominated album Awaken, My Love!, and brought a special guest to help him sing it: 9-year oldJD McCrary.
JD is one of three features on Awaken, My Love!, and was chosen to be featured on "Terrified" after impressing Childish Gambino by performing a cover of Michael Jackson's "Who's Loving You."
Back in December, JD told The FADER of the audition, "I sang Michael Jackson's 'Who's Loving You' and I guess [Gambino] liked it so he invited me to a studio in Glendale, California. I never actually met him in person because he was in Europe, but he was on Skype the whole time I was there."
He added of recording the song, "The whole time I was recording I kept thinking, 'Wow, he hand-picked me to do this.' I know this because he actually said that."
When you're not even the double digits yet, that's pretty cool!
JD had been a fan of Childish Gambino's and had been listening to his previous music from his 2014 record Because the Internet. The 9-year-old from Granada Hills, California, who has been singing since he was 2 years old, has already accomplished so much by acting in commercials and movies, as well as Zendaya's Disney TV series KC Undercover.
It was a big night at the Grammys for Childish Gambino, as he was nominated five times! He was up for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album (for Awaken, My Love!), as well as Record of the Year, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song (for "Redbone") -- of which he won Best Traditional R&B Performance.
