< br />On Sunday, Senator Rand Paul became the first Senator to test positive for COVID-19. So, as our elected officials continue to meet in Washington (why?!), what happens if the pandemic encompasses Capitol Hill, too? Who legislates when half of D.C. is sick? And what happens if our nation dissolves into civil unrest (or is attacked from an outside force) but there aren't any nations available to come to our aid? Newsweek published reports last weekend detailing secret military plans that prepares for all three scenarios. Hopefully the coronavirus crisis never reaches the level where martial law is needed. But in the meantime, state leaders should stop relying on the federal government and do everything they can (like deploying the national guard themselves!) to keep the power at the state level.
