Have you ever noticed a difference in the color of the yolks in your eggs? Some can be a soft yellow, while others can be a dark orange... almost red.
All sorts of shades in between exist as well.
What is the difference between the lighter yolks and the darker yolks when it comes to the health benefits of eggs?
Back in the day, a richer-colored yolk meant a healthier and more nutritious egg. Chickens grazing naturally on grass bugs and seeds are considered well-nourished. Their yolks are bright orange with a high percentage of nutrients and healthy fats.
Ultimately, the diet of the hen producing your eggs will help to shape the color of a yolk. As for a darker orange yolk... this could mean one of two things.
The hens producing the eggs could be be getting additives in their feed or eating in an open pasture.
