Woodstock was a disaster in the making and became one of the greatest moments in music history, Fyre Festival was supposed to learn from that and became the biggest dumpster fire of the social age.
Now it seems like they want another bite at the apple, as Fyre Festival 2, is scheduled for later this year. The original Fyre Festival promised an upscale experience in the Bahamas, with heavy promotion that relied on social media influencers and models to sell tickets. Prices went from $500 to $12,000, and the billed lineup included Blink-182, Major Lazer, Migos and more!
None of them ever played, as the festival turned into a disaster with no music, heavy rain, experiences that never happened and an infamous cheese sandwich. Festival organizers Billy McFarland and Ja Rule, were documented for the downfall of the festival by both Netflix and Hulu with popular documentaries showing planning and failure of the event.
Despite the failure, Billboard reported McFarland's Fyre Festival 2 is set for May 30 through June 2 on Isla Mujeres near Cancun, Mexico. To say that the social media world is going to keep an eye on this is an understatement. Will there be a repeat disaster or will they actually pull of what seems to be the impossible. A ticketing partnership has been established through an Austin-based ticketing website soldout.com.
"Don't miss Fyre Festival 2, the ultimate music and culture experience from May 30th to June 2nd. With exclusive ticket packages including Prometheus, Phoeniz, Fuego and Ignite," the website posted.
The clock is ticking to see what becomes of the second attempt, as McFarland says in a statement. "I'm sure many people think I'm crazy for doing this again. But I feel I'd be crazy not to do it again."
