American Bald Eagle Populations Are Soaring After Nearly Being Extinct

Here's today's feel-good story:

In 1963, only 417 bald eagle nesting pairs were in the lower 48 states. A new report from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says that there are now over 714,400 nesting pairs!

A rapid increase of bald eagles in recent years has skyrocketed the population to an estimated 316,700, up from 72,434 in 2009.

"Today's announcement is truly a historic conservation success story," U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland said. "Announcements like ours today give me hope. I believe that we have the opportunity of a lifetime to protect our environment and our way of life for generations to come. But we will only accomplish great things if we work together."
