The worst part of flying is other people. Even the best seat mates are an annoyance. If your section is open you get it all - the views, the ability to get up without having to crawl over someone, unlimited leg room, and the coveted double arm rest. What if you could swing the odds of seating victory in your favor?

Australian airline Qantas is allowing customers to purchase the empty seat next to them. The "neighbor Free Seating Option" is being offered on certain domestic flights as a pilot program which will offer passengers in economy the option to buy the seat next to them for $20-$30. Passengers will be sent an email 48 hours before their departure for the ability to choose the upgrade. Though the additional seat won't be guaranteed until departure - if the plane fills up, customers will receive a refund.

If I can stake my claim on both armrests, it's worth it.
