On Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that the city will be accepting applications for monthly $500 payments to low income families affected by Covid-19.
The payments will go to 5,000 low income household for a year as part of a program known as the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot. Applications will open April 25th and will close on May 13th. Applicants will be considered if they are at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty level with priority going to people in poverty snd with pre-existing financial hardships.
Chicago is not the only city with a similar program. Los Angelos county has accepted applications earlier this month for a similar program that provides $1,000 payments for three years and Detroit is looking into creating a two year pilot program that will also provide $500 monthly payments.
