Researchers from the E-U Toy Safety Directive took a sample of 200 plastic toys from homes, daycares, and schools and found more than ten percent contained high levels of hazardous chemicals and would never be considered approved for sale today.
Red and yellow Lego building blocks were found to be particularly dangerous as they contain cadmium levels that are considered unsafe.
