Former President Bill Clinton reportedly brought late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell as his guests to Moroccan King Mohammed VI's wedding in 2002, according to the New York Post.
Clinton, who earned goodwill in Morocco after attending the funeral of King Hassan II, Mohammed VI's father, three years prior, was seen in a group photo with Epstein, Maxwell, and his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, obtained by the newspaper.
“[Clinton] brought them as guests to a king’s wedding. I mean, it almost sounds made up,” one with knowledge of the situation told the New York Post. “How many times in your life have you been invited as a guest of a guest at a wedding?”
A second source claimed that Clinton "insisted" and "pushed" for Maxwell and Epstein to be brought to the wedding.
"[Former first lady] Hillary [Clinton] was in the Senate, so she couldn’t go. Chelsea very much wanted to go, and the president very much wanted to go,” the second source said. “The idea that they would take [Epstein] was a head-scratcher. But nonetheless, the Clinton office moved forward and made this request … to bring these two guests, and that’s what happened.”
Clinton's own aides were reportedly shocked by the move, which was viewed as ruse and had been the subject of debate among Democratic circles for more than two decades. The former president has publicly downplayed his ties to Epstein as the Justice Department is set to release files on the late convicted pedophile's crimes on Friday (December 19).
The disgraced financier's crimes weren't public knowledge at the time of the Moroccan king's wedding in 2002.
