Katy Perry Details Orlando Bloom's Extravagant Helicopter Proposal

Orlando Bloom went full throttle to pop the question to longtime girlfriend Katy Perry and the big moment involved a helicopter, as per the pop star's recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"It was very sweet. It was Valentine’s Day. . . .We went to dinner and I thought we were going to go see some art after dinner but we pulled up to a helicopter," Perry recalled of the event, to which the late-night host described as "very Bachelor." "It was really sweet. He asked me to marry him in a helicopter."

Still, Perry went on to admit that the dream scenario did have a few kinks in the logistical rollout. "The funny part is we had champagne in the helicopter and the [ring] box was in his pocket and he had written down everything he wanted to say on a note,” she continued, admitting that the note was intended to keep her attention away from the box. "So I’m reading [the note] but I’m hearing the champagne is broken and the bottle's everywhere. I'm stilling looking at the note. He's pulling out this box that's too big for his coat pocket, rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne."

Thankfully, it all worked out for the pair, particularly with a surprise ending to the occasion. "We landed on a rooftop [In Los Angeles]— my whole family was there, and all my friends. He did so well," she exclaimed. As we previously reported, Bloom proposed to Perry with a unique sparkler that was shaped like a flower and featured a pink gem at its center. To echo Perry's story, her mother, Mary Hudson, had posted about the engagement after the holiday on Facebook, writing, "Look who got engaged on Valentines Day!!"

After being linked to one another after a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, the pair remained a power couple until they split a year later in February 2017. In 2018, they sparked reconciliation rumors when they were spotted celebrating the New Year in the Maldives and took their relationship public once again when they hit the red carpet for the Gala for the Global Ocean at the Opera hosted by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monte-Carlo in Monaco in September 2018.
