Gerard Way's Brother Congratulates Him on 'Umbrella Academy' Netflix Series

Nearly two decades ago, Gerard Way and his brother Mikey started a band called My Chemical Romance. After four albums and over 10 years of playing music together, the band parted ways. However, the younger Way could not be more proud of what his brother is doing on his own.

Since MCR parted ways in 2013, Gerard has not only been releasing solo music, but also saw his comic book world of The Umbrella Academy come to life — both on the page, and on the small screen. As fans await the premiere of the comic's Netflix series next month, Mikey took to Instagram to let his brother know how inspiring it is to watch him fulfill his dreams.

"Here’s tangible proof that dreams come true," Mikey wrote alongside an Umbrella Academy trailer. "From back when @gerardway was a kid -creating fantastic worlds on diner placemats, to creating fantastic worlds on @netflix with @umbrellaacad - everything is possible. Congratulations @gerardway & @gabriel_ba! You did it ☂ 👏#umbrellaacademy"

The Umbrella Academy will be airing as a 10-episode television series on Netflix. It premieres February 15th and stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige. The series is based off Way's comic book series of the same name.

“What I did for Steve Blackman (the showrunner) and the writers in that first writers’ room was to create an 18-page document that laid everything out,” Way told Collider. “Even of the graphic novels that haven’t come out yet. Which should equal eight when we’re all done. So I gave them the blueprint for what happens because you do want to seed certain things in there for future series and the hope is that it’s a success so that you do a lot more of these.

“They’re very curious what Gabriel [Ba, illustrator] and I are doing next. We always send them the new comics. They really want to know what’s happening.”
