Vampire Weekend Finally Returns with New Songs "Harmony Hall & "2021"

Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend has officially returned, as the band has dropped their first new music in six years and gave fans not one, but two new songs: "Harmony Hall" and "2021."

The band teased their new songs earlier this week after posting a two-hour loop of guitar riffs featured in "Harmony Hall," along with two social media posts, one featuring an image inspired by the traditional "Tree of Life" diagram, which is used in Jewish Kabbalah.

"Harmony Hall" features the fluttery guitar riff as previously teased in the two-hour loop as Ezra sings in the chorus, "And the stone walls of Harmony Hall bear witness/ Anybody with a holy mind can never forgive the sight/ Of wicked snakes inside a place you thought was dignified/ I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die."

Meanwhile, "2021" is softer and at one minute and forty seconds, the song is about the future reflecting on current times. Koenig sings in the first verse, "2021, will you think about me?/ I could wait a year but I shouldn't wait three (Boy)/ I don't wanna be."

Both new Vampire Weekend songs are the first taste of the band's new forthcoming fourth full-length studio album, which follows Modern Vampires of the City released back in 2013. This will also be Vampire Weekend's first album without co-founding member Rostam Batmanglij, who departed from the band in 2016.

Details about the LP have yet to be revealed, but Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig gave fans a little bit of information in a recent lengthy Instagram post. He revealed that the abbreviated title of the LP is FOTB, which stands for Father of the Bride, and that it's a double album.

Ezra wrote, "It's called 'FOTB' (well those are the initials - that's a VW tradition) and it's 18 songs. Picked the name a few years ago. At some point early on, the album drifted from the Mitsubishi Macchiato aesthetic. It was a helpful guiding principle tho. Working titles are important too." He added, "Is it a double album? The vinyl will be double so ... yes? It's about 59 minutes long. We can talk more abt that later - if u care. To me, it's just FOTB."

Elsewhere in the update to fans, Koenig shared that the band would be sharing two new songs every month until the full album is officially out. He said, "There will be three 2-song drops every month until the record is out. 1. hh/2021 2. s/bb 3. tl/uw. (plans change that's the plan)."
