Say what you want about Britney Spears, but the pop monarch has the hits and widespread appeal to headline the Super Bowl LII halftime show, and her team is itching for the coveted spot, as per a new report from the New York Daily News.
On Monday night (July 11), the outlet revealed that Spears' associates have had "secret discussions" with television and advertising execs tied to Super Bowl LII, which is set to take place in Minneapolis on February 4. "Britney has made it clear to her team that it is a dream to perform at a Super Bowl," the insider told the NYDN. "She has the hits package and appeal to be a headliner."
Still, the stage might not just feature a solo Spears. Later on in the report, the insider revealed that the entertainer could easily be joined by other star-studded names. As you'll recall, the pop star blazed the stage in 2001 when she performed "Walk This Way" in Tampa alongside Aerosmith, *NSYNC, Mary J Blige and Nelly.
Meanwhile, Spears recently made headlines, courtesy of songwriter Justin Tranter, who is partially responsible (alongside Julia Michaels) for some of pop's biggest hits within the last couple of years, including Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Selena Gomez's "Good for You" and DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean."
Tranter, who worked alongside Michaels on the pop titan’s recent album, Glory, spoke with interviewer Courtney Love about writing with the Princess of Pop. "Britney [Spears] really surprised me. Britney had some really cool f**ked-up ideas for songs," the hitmaker recalled in the interview for OUT. "For one of the songs that ended up on [Glory], 'Just Like Me,' she was like, 'What if we write a song where I’m so excited to go and meet with my man and I walk in and he's hooking up with a girl who looks just like me?' I was like, 'OK, Britney Spears I’ll write that song with you. Let's f**king do this.'"
