Not only has the new movie “Captain Marvel” shattered the box office, it’s scored big gains for some classic hits, too. According to Nielsen Music, the sales of 13 songs featured in the movie have gone up big time – by 464-percent in four days.
“Celebrity Skin” by Hole was by far the biggest-selling track from the movie, jumping 2,222-percent in sales and going up by almost 2,000 downloads. Close behind are Nirvana’s“Come As You Are,”No Doubt’s“Just A Girl,” and “Only Happy When It Rains” by Garbage, all of which sold more than 1,000 downloads in four days.
“Please Mr. Postman” by The Marvelettes also saw an up in sales, even though the recording itself wasn't in the movie. It's all thanks to the part where Samuel L. Jackson’s character sings a little bit of the tune.
"People say the 90's songs don't test, or weren't good but they must be on something, because this soundtrack and it's popularity prove otherwise," said American Radio Presenter Toby Knapp of iHeartRadio. "The 90's have never been hotter... and they're just starting to really heat up. This is the beginning. Just the beginning."
