New Study Says Women Age More Slowly As She Has More Children

I have always wanted multiples - if you remember, I used to talk about wanting "one pregnancy but more than one kid" - but now more than ever there may be a reason to want multiples, or at least more than one kid!

A new study just revealed that women age more slowly as they have more children... and I am HERE for that!

I know you're probably thinking "say what??" just as I was when I first read this headline, but let me explain a bit.

The study, conducted by researchers at Simon Fraser University in 2016 concluded that the number of children a woman gives birth to can have an effect on the rate at which her body ages — slowing the process down.

This definitely contradicts the previously believed idea that having children can actually speed up the aging process.

In specific and scientific terms, the study looked at the number of children a woman has and the length of her telomere. But what is a telomere? Well, it's the protective tip at the end of each strand of DNA, and is key in the aging process.

In basic terms, as we age, our telomere naturally gets shorter. The shorter the telomere, the more the signs of aging will show up on things like your skin and nails! So when the study found that women with more children had longer telomeres, well, that's kind of mind blowing.

It's possible that it's not only the chemical makeup of your body that affects the telomere length, but also the environment that having more children creates.

And I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if my kids keep me from aging. Just look at this moment I had with Maxon yesterday:

He couldn't stop laughing! Which meant I couldn't stop laughing! And if moments like those don't add years to my life, I don't know what could.

I will say, this study has me wonder if maybe Michael and I should consider having another kid... but that's a little extreme right now. We haven't even gotten to a year with the twins, and they're getting verrrrry mobile these days...
