Work Stress Could Be Hurting Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant

The struggles of being a working mom are often discussed to great lengths - you're balancing working with caring for your babies, school drop off and pick ups, making sure there is food on the table, your relationship with your husband, and eventually soccer games and cheer practices etc.

It's a lot, let's face it.

But have you ever considered the struggles of being a working woman who is just trying to get to "working mom" status?

Turns out, the stress we're all facing at work can actually hinder our ability to get pregnant.

But should we just throw in the towel because of our demanding jobs? Nope! There are ways to combat it so that you can increase your chance of getting pregnant, even while killing it at the office.

First things first, you have to understand where the stress is coming from - and workplace stress is the combination of "high demands in a job and a low amount of control over the situation", according to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety.

Here in the United States, studies have found that there has been a dramatic increase in workplace stress over the past few decades, and in general, doctors are able to link infertility with high stress rates.

The new study on the link between work stress specifically and infertility found that women who felt more pressure from commitments were 25% less likely to conceive.

So how do you combat the stress? Mental Health America suggests making sure you have time to "unplug" and not feel required to be connected to your phone 24/7.

In addition, it's important to set aside realistic daily goals, work on effective communication and get support or ask for help when you need it.

For a lot of us, work will always be an important part of life, and with that naturally comes the stress of it, but once we are able to find ways to manage and limit the stress, we will be much better off.
