President Donald Trump said that he will not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20.
"To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th," Trump wrote on Twitter Friday (January 8) morning.
Earlier in the day, Trump promised his supporters they "will have a giant voice long into the future."
"The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!," he tweeted.
According to multiple reports, Vice President Mike Pence plans to attend the inauguration. He was on the fence for a while, but after President Trump blasted him for refusing to overturn the results of the election, his decision became easier.
"It was a much more difficult decision days ago, but less difficult now," a person close to Pence told Politico.
President Trump is reportedly discussing plans to leave the White House on January 19 and go to his South Florida resort Mar-a-Lago.
If Trump does not show up, he will join John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Johnson as the only incumbent presidents to refuse to attend the inauguration of their successor.
