ICE Begins Conducting Deportation Raids In Cities Across The Country

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have begun a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants who have ignored deportation orders. The raids will target illegal immigrants in at least ten cities across the country who have ignored deportation orders and will take place over several days.

The raids are expected to occur in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. Officials had also planned raids in New Orleans but suspended those plans because of tropical storm Barry.

President Donald Trump told reporters that ICE agents would be targeting criminals.

"It starts on Sunday, and they're going to take people out and they're going to bring them back to their countries or they're going to take criminals out, put them in prison, or put them in prison in the countries they came from. We're focused on criminals as much as we can before we do anything else," Trump said.

While the raids are meant to deport criminals, the New York Times reports that authorities could end up arresting "immigrants who happened to be on the scene, even though they were not targets of the raids."
