El Paso Immigrant Overflow Comes To Albuquerque

The increase of asylum seeking immigrants causing a strain on El Paso, Texas shelters is producing an overflow that has now reached Albuquerque, New Mexico. On Sunday, the director of El Paso's Annunciation House shelter arranged to send around 300 immigrants from ICE custody by bus to Albuquerque for help with their processing and placement with sponsors or family members. The immigrants will later have dates in immigration court for their asylum petition hearings. All of the adult immigrants are fitted with GPS ankle monitors until their hearing dates.
