INTERVIEW: Maxwell Chats All Things Music w/ Bruno Mars

For some reason Bruno Mars was trending today. And upon further review, it was because of this foolish video on Grapevine questioning his cultural appropriation.

I along with TONS of other who took to twitter aren't hearing ANY OF IT!!! As a music fan, a dude who has spent years of my life devoted to playing the best songs on the radio, and a friend of Bruno, I can say with 100% certainty that Bruno is one of the best things to happen to the industry...PERIOD! He's feverishly devoted to the songwriting craft, keeps his team extremely tight, and performs like no one else in the game.

The caption of the video reads:

Bruno Mars is a music superstar! On this episode, the panelists debate whether or not Bruno is a cultural appropriator. As a non-black person of color, does Bruno get a pass for creating and profiting off "black music"?

What the hell is "black music" anyway??? Is there even a such thing?? As an African-American male in the industry, I still haven't been able to truly understand that question. There are so many genres of music that have cultural influences from all types of people. To say that there is a certain type of music for or from a certain type of people is fricken crazy!!!

Shout out to Bruno for mentioning this in a previous interview w/ Latina:

"When you say 'black music,' understand that you are talking about rock, jazz, R&B, reggae, funk, doo-wop, hip-hop, and Motown," he said in a 2017 interview with Latina. "Black people created it all. Being Puerto Rican, even salsa music stems back to the Motherland. So, in my world, black music means everything."

Twitter is having a FIELD DAY shutting up the haters:
