Bruce Springsteen Reveals Previously Unreleased Song "I'll Stand By You"

In connection to the new film, Blinded By the Light, which revolves around Bruce Springsteen's music, The Boss has released a song he wrote long ago for another major film.

"I'll Stand by You" was originally written for the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone soundtrack, but wasn't included in the final production of the film.

Springsteen's release of the song now with Blinded By the Light seems almost like a favor to the super fan on whom the film is based.

Blinded by the Light, which is due in theaters August 16, is the big screen adaptation of the memoir by U.K. writer Sarfraz Manzoor. Manzoor's 2007 book, Greetings From Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N' Roll chronicles his challenging adolescence in which he struggled to assimilate as an immigrant in a racist English community, while also butting heads with his Pakistani family, which pressured him to hold on to the traditions of their homeland.

But Manzoor found a kindred spirit in Springsteen via The Boss's music, which he says empowered him to become who he wanted to be. Manzoor has since seen Springsteen live at least 150 times — to the point that Springsteen recognized him as an audience member years before being approached about making the film.

Springsteen surprised an audience in Asbury Park, NJ, earlier this week at the U.S. premier of the film. He performed four songs with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

The Boss's has another Netflix special coming out, featuring his latest solo album, Western Stars, and he reportedly plans to get back in the studio with the E Street Band this coming fall with a tour to follow in 2020.
