Drake Is Trying to Trademark the Phrase 'God's Plan'

Drake is trying to make sure no one can make money off the title 'God's Plan'

The rapper has filed an application to trademark the phrase, which is the title of his popular 2018 song, according to documents obtained by Page Six on Tuesday.

While the July 31 filing suggests that Drake plans to use the phrase for things you’d expect like music, clothing, marketing and promotions, it also looks like he might be planning to use it for a game show to be broadcast on TV and the internet.

Presented as part of the evidence for his claim on the trademark are screenshots of the “God’s Plan” music video, its Wikipedia page and coverage of the song in various music publications.

The filing might be a preventative measure, as the rapper has previously expressed annoyance at people profiting off the phrase “YOLO,” which he did not invent but did popularize it after using it in his 2011 song “The Motto.”
