Fisher Island, an exclusive community in Florida that is known as the richest zip code in America, has obtained coronavirus antibody tests for the 800 families and staff members who live there because it's "what residents wanted."
According to the Miami Herald, the tests were obtained from the University of Miami Health System for all the island's residents and staffers. The island obtained antibody tests, which uses a blood prick to determine whether or not someone has been exposed to the virus and if they've developed antibodies to it.
A spokeswoman for Fisher Island told the Herald that half of the island's residents are over the age of 65, making them particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.
“Fisher Island asked UM Health Clinic whether the antibody testing could be available and facilitated for all employees and residents through the on-site UHealth Clinic,” Sissy DeMaria said.
The man-made island located off the coast of Miami is known as the richest ZIP code in America, according to a survey from Bloomberg. In order to become a resident there, members must pay a one-time $250,000 equity contribution in addition to $22,256 in annual dues. The hefty price tag only covers the privileged to live on the island. If you want to become a resident, you still need to purchase one of the condos on the island, which run an average of 3.2 million, according to Zillow.
One 4-bedroom, 6-bathroom, 6,170 square-ft condo located on the island is priced at a mere $28.5 million.
The pricey digs come with a list of amenities like private beaches, a beach club, a golf course, two deep-water marinas, a spa, 18 tennis courts, and now coronavirus tests. The average annual income is about $2.5 million in 2015, according to Bloomberg.
According to data released by Florida's health department, there have been at least five cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Fisher Island.
